Join a full day exploring love's evolution through history—from medieval arranged marriages to contemporary cinema classics. Using literature's great works as a foundation, instructor Rigmor Kappel Schmidt (translator of Spanish and Russian works and author) examines how love, passion, and emotion have transformed across cultural history.
From Marie of Champagne's era, when women and romance first gained literary prominence, through Romanticism's intense passions—and onward to modern authors like García Márquez, who revealed that great loves also await later in life. Along the way, Don Juan, Cervantes' paradoxes, Flaubert's irony, and cinema's eternal struggle between passion and security take the stage.
The day offers both immersion and rest. Following the morning lecture (10.15-12.00), sandwiches and coffee from The Daily Brew are served (12.00-13.00), before the afternoon session continues (13.00-14.45).
