Art historian and TV host Peter Kær explores the world of art alongside experts, curators, and chef Thomas Mathiesen from Brasserie Kunsten. Each evening combines culinary inspiration with insight: dinner is served first, followed by art historical lectures that connect with the meal.
Schedule for each evening:
- 17:30 – Doors open
- 18:00 – Dinner served
- 18:45 – Art history lecture begins
- 19:30 – Break
- 20:00 – Lecture continues
- 20:45 – Closing
The four themes:
- 22 October – Ovartaci: Museum inspector Amalie Marie Lausten guides us through the artist's fantastical world, where identity and transformation meet. Ovartaci (1894-1985) created works over more than 60 years that starkly contrasted with his life in psychiatric care. A major exhibition is now on view at Kunsten.
- 29 October – The World's 20 Most Valuable Paintings: Art historian Flemming Friborg (former director of the Glyptotek) and Peter Kær examine art market mechanisms. What makes some works billion-kroner investments? What is the difference between expensive and valuable?
- 12 November – The Work of Hands: Two Danish artist pioneers take centre stage: textile artist Anna Thommesen (1908-2024) and ceramicist Ursula Munch-Petersen (1937-2025). Museum inspector Teresa Østergaard from Holstebro Art Museum explores their craft traditions and how they challenged the boundaries between art and functionality.
- 26 November – COBRA – Who Were the Others?: Lucas Haberkorn from Museum Jorn shares the story of the art movement behind Asger Jorn – and the other artists who created this short-lived but influential group from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark.
Price: 1,995 DKK for all four evenings, including dinner and a glass of wine. Coffee and cake can be purchased separately. Visitors without an annual pass to Kunsten must purchase admission separately.
