Mozart's music lives as fully today as when he composed it more than 200 years ago. Among his works, the 30 piano concertos shine as some of his most wonderful creations – filled with beauty and light.
Through this genre, one can follow Mozart's development from childhood, when he wrote his first smaller concertos, through his many travels and youth in Salzburg, to his artistically mature years in Vienna. He composes his first piano concerto at just 11 years old – an impressive feat – and his last work in the genre was written in 1791, the year of his death, at age 35. The piano was one of Mozart's own instruments, and most of these concertos were created for his personal performances.
The lecturer Leif Balthzersen, who publishes a Danish book about these masterpieces in 2026, presents the story of Mozart, his family, the piano concertos, and musical life in his era. Through images and musical examples, he opens your eyes to the work's depth and significance – both as a compositional artistic expression and as a gateway to a fascinating epoch.
