A two-part lecture series that explores psychiatric history from the patients' perspective – voices that have long been overlooked in traditional historical narratives. Rather than the institutions' and senior physicians' accounts, this series presents a completely new perspective based on original sources: censored patient letters, published pamphlets, newspaper articles, legal cases and archival photographs.
Lecture 1: A Historical Perspective is given by Line Keller Nørbøge Ottosen, ph.d. student at Aarhus University. Lecture 2: A Psychological Perspective is given by Professor Klaus Nielsen, also from Aarhus University. Both lectures connect the past to current issues and challenges within psychiatry.
The event is based on the book Patient Voices from the Asylum (2026) and offers an in-depth introduction to this important historical research.
