Bandoneonist Stine Engen and bassist Kenneth Dahl Knudsen present an intimate acoustic exploration of tango and music that has shaped their artistic identities. Curious and improvisational in approach, they weave together their distinct musical backgrounds to create a personal repertoire that honors tradition while leaving room for the unexpected.
About the artists:
- Stine Helkjær Engen is a Danish bandoneon player, composer, and arranger based in Buenos Aires. Her journey with Argentina began during anthropology studies, where she fell in love with tango, the bandoneon, and the city itself. Since moving there in 2009, she has spent over a decade immersed in the instrument and its culture, performing with ensembles like Orquesta Típica Andariega and Sexteto Andiamo across Buenos Aires, Europe, and milongas. Through her project DANGO, she fuses Danish vocal traditions with Argentine tango. For Stine, tango transcends musical genre—it is a living culture encompassing dance, poetry, history, and human connection.
- Kenneth Dahl Knudsen is a Copenhagen-based bassist and composer with an extensive international career spanning modern jazz, contemporary composition, and musical traditions from around the world. He has performed across Europe, Asia, and the Americas—from intimate jazz clubs to major concert halls. As a composer and ensemble leader, he directs multiple cross-cultural projects, having written for the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, chamber ensembles, and large jazz orchestras. His work consistently seeks to both challenge and honor the traditions from which music emerges.
